The Central West Cycle

Central West Cycle Trail

The Central West Cycle (CwC) trail creates a loop around the central west of NSW of almost 400km. It is a very generous bike trail designed to give cyclists a week long ride and a great, memorable cycling experience. In comparison Victoria’s Great Ocean Road ride is only 250km, while NZ’s iconic Otago Trail is 150km.

The loop will encourage new visitors to come the Central West of NSW and breathe life into the small villages and towns.

Furthermore, the CwC trail travels through Wiradjuri country, providing participants to experience the landscape, Early Colonial Australian History including "Explorers", " Bushrangers", "Goldfields" and "Pastoral Runs" and cycle an ever changing landscape of Towns, Villages, Farming, National Park and Reserves.

The historic township of Canowindra is located on the Belubula River in the central west of New South Wales. Canowindra derives its name from the indigenous Wiradjuri Aboriginal word meaning 'home' or 'camping place'.

Canowindra's famous crooked main street features many historic buildings providing accommodation, food, coffee, art and old wares, with quintessential old pubs scattered along it's route.

I live in north central Victoria. This area is not currently recognised by many as a cycling destination, including by local government.

However, I think the extensive grid of local gravel roads, that now get much less traffic because of loss of irrigation water and farm consolidation, are an opportunity for cycling. Particularly when coupled with clay roads and scenic river tracks.

Gravel cycling and bikepacking are the biggest growth areas in cycling at present, and northern Victoria is well placed to benefit.

Desire Lines Cycling Club

There’s something infinitely beautiful about desire lines. Unlike Henry Grabar, I don’t see them as an act of defiance; people wilfully ignoring footpaths, roads, and signs.

Rather, I see desire lines as an act of creative expression. A human desire to leave behind manufactured, concrete paths and embrace a moment of nature, even if it’s just for a brief moment.

It’s this desire to leave behind the grey bitumen and asphalt of the cities, and enter into our natural environment, that’s driving increasing numbers of people towards the world of adventure cycling, in all its glorious forms.

Ride High Country

Welcome to the High Country. You’re standing in my backyard and I couldn’t be more stoked to have you here!

Growing up just a stone’s throw from Mount Beauty, I was spoilt for choice when it came to cycling, from incredible mountain biking to great road riding. Spending all my spare time riding bikes with my four brothers, we had endless options for epic adventure, racing each other on new trails and having the time of our lives.
